ITAS Introduction Media Release

12 December 2018

Simon Steyn, Partner |

The Ministry of Finance is developing an electronic filing and query platform known as the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS). In previous test runs to which members of ICAN and NIPA were invited, many practical and operational issues were prevalent. We trust that these issues have been resolved.

In a notice dated 7 December 2018, the Permanent Secretary issued a Press Release to all taxpayers informing them of the official shut down of the current Taxlive system on 31 December 2018. As part of the transition from the current system to ITAS, no tax transactions will be processed from 31 December 2018 until 16 January 2019.

The great concern is obviously the reliable transfer of existing records from the current system to the ITAS system and the stability and ease of access to the electronic platform. Only time will tell. We hope that access to the current / old system will be retained until full operational integrity of the system has been proven.

In the interim, we advise our clients to limit their transactions during the downtime period to a minimum and if payments and filings are made, to keep full record and copies thereof.
